I'm originally from Baltimore, but after 3-and-a-half years in Boston, we decided to head south to Philadelphia. Returning to Pennsylvania, where I spend a considerable part of my adult life (in York, Johnstown, and Pittsburgh).
It's amazing to think that I loved my career from day one. It's even more amazing to think that I still love design today. I chalk it up to variety and exploration. I've worn so many design hats over the years that I'm not confident that I mastered how to wear any of them, but with every twist and turn along the way I gained something positive. I learned new skills, different approaches to solving design problems for a variety of platforms and end users, as well as how to work for, and with, people from all walks of life with different skillsets in the towns and cities in which I've lived. I used to think this lack of focus was a downside, but the diversity of experience helped shape me as both a person and designer!
Perhaps my design journey started when I was sketching sports team logos as child…or maybe when I was designing skateboards in my bedroom in high school. It's hard to pinpoint it, but I do know that everything truly took off in May of 2000, when I had my first shot at working in a professional environment after my sophomore year of college. I was initially focusing on print design, but by later that year, I had bought an HTML book for $5 and immediately fell in love with the web. The rest, as the cliché goes, is history…and it needs to stay that way for the sake of a brief(ish) bio! As I get closer to 2 decades of being a design practitioner, the many lessons learned and talking points could make for endless rambling, so it's best to get the formal, condensed rundown on my resumé, and if you want to learn more, feel free to reach out!
When I'm not designing, I love spending time with my wife and our little chihuahua, Bijoux, eating great food and exploring Philly, as well as traveling. I also have a growing obsession with coffee that's turned me into a home barista (and for a year, part-time barista), and our kitchen into Café Bijoux. I also love playing soccer and being active. In those rare moments when I'm relaxing, I like to draw, play guitar, and watch sports…especially soccer (Barça, Milan, Newcastle), hockey (Penguins), and football (Ravens), with a dose of Orioles baseball whenever I can catch it!
If you'd like to connect on social channels, feel free! My Instagram posts are mostly food, coffee, and Bijoux. Twitter is mostly sports chatter. Facebook is mostly my amazing wife tagging me in things, and LinkedIn for any professional connections.
Thanks for stopping by, and don't be shy about saying hello!
